15 July 2021 – On the eve of the semi-final match against Mozambique, Bafana Bafana have been handed a blow. This morning’s batch of Corona tests have forced a player and a staff member into immediate isolation.

Physiotherapist Nhlanhla Ndlovu tested positive for the virus as well as midfielder Masilake Phohlongo.

Team Doctor Tshepo Molobi explains that despite every measure taken to safe guard the national team, nothing is however full proof.

“At this stage of the tournament to be without key members of the team is unfortunate. We have come so far as a unit and it does cause destabilization. However, we do know that there are measures already tried and tested in place, to ensure that the rest of the team stays safe to focus on the rest of the journey and that those who are sick get the care and treatment they need,” Molobi explains.

On arrival in Gqeberha, Coaches Helman Mkhalele and Lucky Shiburi tested positive and were immediately isolated. Having undergone the mandatory ten day isolation they have been cleared today (Thursday) and are no longer deemed infectious.

The same process will be undertaken for the most recent cases (mandatory isolation for ten days) and they will be under medical supervision until day eleven when they’re able to de-isolate.
