29 June 2021 – A last minute own goal by Sanele Ngwenya saw Umvoti FC’s day spoiled and dent their chances of reaching the semis of the ongoing ABC Motsepe National play offs as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Glendene United on Tuesday afternoon.

The KZN side were well-placed after going ahead through Phumlani Makhwebane who scored the opening goal in the very first minute of the match to give them a good platform.
But from scoring in the opening minute to concede with almost the last kick of the day must have been heart breaking for Umvoti FC.

While the KZN side are mathematically out of the running, Glendene United still have a chance to qualify for the semi-finals if they win their outstanding game.

The opening match of the day saw Gauteng’s Leruma United FC upset FC Sivutsa whom they defeated 1-0. Sivutsa Head Coach Innocent Mayoyo was visibly upset by the shock result.

“This is our first loss in 19 matches, and it is a hard pill to swallow as we might not make the semi-finals. All is not lost though as we will still have to see how the last day matches pen out,” said Mayoyo.

The last match of Day 2 between BCM Stars and The Dolphins was very physical with both teams wasting some good scoring chances and the match duly ended in a goalless draw.

BCM Stars Head Coach Tshepo Motsoeneng said goalkeepers from the two teams were the reason why the match ended in a goalless draw.

“We could have thrown the “kitchen sink” at the Dolphins keeper and he could still have saved that. He was undeniably brilliant and so was our keeper,’’ said Motsoeneng.
