10 June 2021– South Africa U23 Men’s Olympic team landed in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday 8 June 2021, weary but buoyant to take on their Egyptian U23 Men’s counterparts in the first match of the two International Friendly matches. The first one takes place on Thursday, 10 June 2021 and kicks off at 20h00.

Despite some challenges following the withdrawals due to Covid-19 of some key players, South Africa U23 coach David Notoane remains optimistic that his team will compete and take shape ahead of leaving for Tokyo Olympics next month.

Notoane said it has been a taxing week with all the Covid-19 protocols and travelling.

“We landed safely and it’s hot in Egypt. We have faced some challenges in terms of our preparations, with a few withdrawals due to Covid-19. However, we are grateful for the opportunity our Egyptian brothers has afforded us to continue with our preparations for the Olympic Games,” said Notoane.

“All our foreign based players; Luther Singh, Lyle Foster, Thabo Cele and Rowan Human are looking good and we have also been joined by Luke Le Roux and Liam Jordan. We are looking forward to our first game to see what the boys can do,’’ concluded Notoane.
