1 April 2021 – Showmax-sponsored SAFA Referees have concluded a two-week mid-season workshop held in Kempton Park and will gear up in their new kit for the remainder of the National Soccer League season.

SAFA conducted two workshop sessions over the past two weeks – because of the Covid-19 regulations, the attendees were divided into two groups.

SAFA Head of Referees, Mr Abdul Ebrahim said he was impressed with the sessions and the growth that the match officials showed during the workshops.

“We are highly impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of our match officials,” said Ebrahim.

“They are the ones that dictated the topics of the workshops and even created study cases for all to go through. They were very proactive and we engaged in some interesting topics over the past two weeks.

“South Africa boasts some of the best officials on the continent and we intend on getting more of them to be appointed for CAF and FIFA matches,’’ added Ebrahim.

He said it was now imperative to ensure that all our Provincial referee structures are aligned in one common goal of ensuring continuous development of match officials who are prepared and ready when called upon to become part of the National Panel.

‘’It is important that we ensure as the Association that our referees are always engaging with each other and have regular workshops. We want to ensure that all officials are on par with the modern trends of the game, while ensuring that their mental and physical fitness is at the highest level at all times,’’ concluded Ebrahim.
