15 January 2021 – South Africa’s golden boy, Percy “The Lion of Judah” Tau inspired and renewed hope among South African football players, especially the youths when he made his full and impressive Premier League debut for Brighton and Hove Albion against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Despite Brighton’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, Tau became the number one trending topic on social media platforms as jubilant South African football lovers expressed their excitement with his debut.

Even South Africans who would normally support the opposition side (Manchester City) did not hold back from rallying behind the Bafana Bafana star who was recently recalled to Graham Potter’s team after a two-and-a-half year loan spell in Belgium.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star seized the opportunity given to him with an impressive performance in attack, showing a glimpse of his skills and pace for 67 minutes of action before he was substituted, leaving South Africans longing for more minutes for him.

Speaking after the game Brighton coach Graham Potter expressed his thoughts on Tau’s Premier League debut against a strong Manchester City side, stating that he will get better with more games.

“He showed glimpses of what he can do and he will get better. He has plenty of time and we need to help him,’’ said Potter.

Brighton and Hove Albion are currently on position 17 in the Premier League standings and will take on Leeds United on Saturday 16 January 2021 and many South Africans will again be hoping Percy Tau will get another chance in Potter’s starting line-up.
