17 December 2020 – The SAFA National Women Super League will kick off the 2021 season with the now increased 14 teams competing for top honours.
The year 2021 will also see the commencement of the CAF Women’s Champions League and the FIFA World Club Cup.
The Sasol League, the bedrock of woman football development and the generator of players for the national teams and for all women national teams as well as delivering women players to compete overseas – more than 32 women players ply their trade overseas – will also commence early next year.
The coming year will also see Banyana Banyana competing for a place in the AWCON as well as a place in the expanded 32 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The year 2021 will see a flurry of activities during the FIFA window in March with the u17 team, Amajimbos travelling to Morocco to participate in the Junior AFCON with the objective of securing a place in the FIFA World Cup.
The U23 team will continue their preparations for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics with the conviction that they should proceed to the knock out stages.
March will also see Bafana Bafana close their AFCON Cameroon campaign with a home game against Ghana and Sudan away.
Bafana Bafana will also continue with the FIFA World Cup qualification in Qatar by playing home and away against Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Ghana.
CAF AND FIFA ELECTIONS
March will also see the Elective Congress in Morocco where our candidate, Dr Patrice Motsepe will contest the position of the CAF Presidency and vice-presidency of FIFA. This remains a focus in the campaign led by our candidate.
With the renovations and enhancement of Fun Valley having been completed, this has now placed SAFA in a position to officially launch of the National Technical Centre as the feeder of qualify players for all of our national teams.
The centre has already proved its value with Banyana Banyana, u17 and other national teams camping there in preparation for various tournaments.
Further improvements will be made for it to serve as the base camp for all national teams including Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana. This is in line with global best practices.
Meanwhile, the NEC confirmed, after a series of interviews, three candidates – Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe, Happy Ntshingila and Lydia Monyepao – on the final list for the CEO’s position.
SAFA is hopeful to finalise the appointment of the CEO by mid-January and taking into consideration the covid-19 regulations, this might stretch to the end of January.
