(South Africa win 4-2 on penalties)

29 November 2020- South African U17 men’s national team, Amajimobs were crowned COSAFA Cup champions after a 4-2 penalty win over Zambia in the COSAFA U17 final on Sunday afternoon at Gelvandale stadium.

Amajimbos came into this encounter as the underdogs after a 1-0 defeat against Zambia in the “Round Robin” group stages on Thursday, 26 November.  But not to be outdone for the second time, played better football and could have sealed the victory in regulation time.

It was not a great start for the South African side as they went behind 1-0 early in the first half after conceding a penalty.

Despite trailing, Amajimbos were still able to be composed and put pressure on Zambia forcing their own penalty in the 14th minute and Thabang Mahlangu slotted home to level matters.

The teams went into the half-time break deadlocked at 1-1.

The second half saw both teams creating scoring opportunities but no one could find the elusive winning goal forcing the match into the dreaded penalty shoot-out which the hosts came out 4-2 winners.

South African Mduduzi Shabalala walked away as the player of the tournament.
