23 November 2020 –SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan said he was left shattered after receiving news of the passing away of former Bafana Bafana defender, Anele Ngcongca who died in a horrific car accident in Durban on Monday morning (23 November 2020).

He was 33.

South Africa received the news of the versatile defender who helped Mamelodi Sundowns win a treble last season with shock and Dr Jordaan said the news had left him numb and devastated.

‘’This 2020 has been a terrible year; economically, socially and we have lost many of our beloved ones. Anele’s death just sums up this dreadful year,’’ said Dr Jordaan.

The SAFA President said road accidents had claimed the lives of many football players and something had to be done to stop this sad trend.

‘’We have lost a number of our players through road accidents and I cannot explain enough the importance of adhering to speed limits and other driving regulations.’’

Dr Jordaan said as we approach the Festive Season, road accidents were likely to rise steeply and reminded road users, especially footballers to exercise caution on roads.

‘’We call upon all drivers to take extra precautionary measures to ensure a safe Festive Season on our roads,’’ he said.

Ngcongca who left Sundowns to join Belgium side, KSV Roeselare had returned to the country and was expected to be unveiled as an AmaZulu player this week.
