21 November 2020 – The 2020 FIFA Congress was conducted virtually due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has mooted the same for their upcoming Congress.

The CAF Congress was initially scheduled for Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on 11 December 2020 but now the continental football governing body has recommended that due to rising cases of covid-19, they will go the virtual route.

And with the much talked about impending spike in covid-19 cases in the country, SAFA is mooting that they might go this route as well and conduct a Virtual Congress this year.

‘’We are likely to follow the global route of having our Congress this year conducted virtually. These are not normal times and people’s health comes first in whatever we do,’’ said SAFA CEO, Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe.

The coastal areas, which provide the largest number of SAFA delegates to the Congress, have seen a recent spike, a development that has forced SAFA to suggest holding a virtual Congress.

The SAFA Congress has been pencilled for 19 December 2020.
