2 October 2020 – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Morne Barnes, Head of Administration of the SAFA Cape Town Region on Wednesday. The SAFA Cape Town community has been shaken to its core with grief and disbelief and are heartbroken at Mr Barnes’s unexpected passing.

The SAFA and SAFA Cape Town family has lost a colleague, father, companion, friend, hero, hard worker and mentor. Indeed a “Tall Tree” has fallen in the jungle that has now gone silent as we mourn his passing. Morne will be remembered for his dedication, selfless commitment and passion to the game and was a true servant within the football community.

The SAFA Cape Town President, Mr Bennett Bailey, the Regional Executive Committee, the staff, all the Cape Town Local Football Associations and its members express their heartfelt condolences on Morne’s passing to the Barnes and Japhta families.

Matthew 11, verse 28-38: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Morne, we salute you. It has been an honour serving with you, it has been a blessing knowing you, rest well and rest in peace our gentle giant.
