2 September 2020 – SAFA’s head of referees, Abdul Ebrahim has praised the match officials for a job well done during the rescheduled Premier Soccer League (PSL) and National First Division (NFD) matches.
The National Soccer League programme resumed at the beginning of August after all matches were suspended earlier this year due to the advent of the corona virus pandemic. All matches had to recommence in a bio-bubble environment and Ebrahim says despite the challenging circumstances, the officials had generally performed well.
“Here and there, you would find errors but to err is only human especially in the sporting environment. There is nowhere in the world where you would get a situation which has no mistakes,’’ said Ebrahim.
‘’That said, I think the match officials did the country and the Association proud. Coming from a 5-month lay-off and to perform the way they did, I can only say well done to the officials.”
The PSL programme comes to an end this weekend and will immediately be followed by the play-offs before resuming once again for the 2020/2021 season.
“The match officials have no time to put their feet up. Once this season comes to an end, the new one begins almost immediately and that means all officials have to maintain their high fitness levels all the time,” added Ebrahim.
