23 June 2020 – FIFA has confirmed that SAFA’s official stakeholder registration and competition system, MYSAFA, is in elite company world-wide. According to FIFA, SAFA ranks 15th globally and first in Africa in terms of total stakeholders registered. MYSAFA has issued over 320K FIFA IDs.
SAFA President, Dr. Danny Jordaan was understandably proud and praised both the platform and SAFA’s Members for embracing this essential tool for football development.
“This is a validation of our Vision 2022 strategy to invest in technologies to support player, coach and club development,” said Dr. Jordaan. “We have now gained an important advantage over countries that have not recognized the importance of the FIFA 2.0 technology initiative. I commend the league administrators at every level of our association – especially our LFAs – for their hard work and their embrace of the MYSAFA system. ”
Interfaces to WhatsApp for easy access to competition data and the South African Home Affairs database for identity verification are unique to MYSAFA and have no doubt contributed to the success.
SAFA Acting CEO Tebogo Motlanthe was also excited to see South Africa in the company of traditional world football powers in a global ranking – not to mention its potential impact on player development in SA.
“The primary beneficiaries of our investment in this technology will be our clubs,” explained Advocate Motlanthe. “This will pay dividends – literally – in the form of training reward claims when players turn professional. Being number one in Africa likely means that more rewards will be paid to South African clubs than in other African Member Associations, simply because of the quality of our data.”
“With all the challenges we face as a country and a sport, no funding source can be overlooked,” Advocate Motlanthe concluded.
With play and league registration on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, focus has shifted to club registration – an area of equal importance in the allocation of training rewards. LFAs that have not already done so should contact MYSAFA support to request details on how to register their clubs in good standing with FIFA and assign them permanent FIFA ID numbers.

FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) clearly states that “Only electronically registered players identified with a FIFA ID are eligible to participate in organised football.”
FIFA’s recent circular regarding COVID-19 Football Regulatory Issues further confirmed that the FIFA Clearing House remains on track to be operational from 1 January 2021. From that date, only clubs affiliated to MAs that have electronically registered their clubs and players will be entitled to receive training rewards.
