7 April 2020 – On The International Day Of Sport For Development And Peace (Idsdp), The Ioc President, Thomas Bach, Is Encouraging Everyone To #Beactive, #Stayhealthy, #Stayactive And #Staystrong At A Time When The World Is Facing An Unprecedented Health Crisis, And When People Are Being Asked To Stay At Home To Contain The Spread Of Covid-19.

Sport and physical activity are essential to staying active and healthy, especially in this time of uncertainty and social distancing. Physical activity improves mental health, helps beat negative thoughts, lowers stress and depression, and strengthens the immune system.

By joining the United Nations’ #BeActive campaign, the IOC and the whole Olympic Movement are showing the unity and solidarity of the sporting community with the rest of the world.

Olympic athletes around the world have already been sharing some creative ideas and tips on how to stay fit and healthy on the IOC’s social media channels. Everyone is encouraged to follow their example by staying active and posting their home work-outs on their social media channels using the hashtags #BeActive, #StayStrong, #StayHealthy and #StayActive.

Today and beyond, let’s #BeActive and stay united!

Creating a historical link to the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, 6 April was declared the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace by the UN General Assembly in 2013, and has been celebrated each year since 2014. The IDSDP is an annual celebration of the power of sport to drive social change and community development, and to foster peace and understanding.
