10 March 2020 – Aiming to join the likes of JVW FC and Ma-Indies Ladies in the top echelons of South African Women’s Football, Sasol League teams from across the country begin a brand-new season in what should prove to be one of the most entertaining in recent times.

Established in 2009, the popular Sasol League is South Africa’s semi-professional women’s football league. The purpose of the league is to grow and develop women’s football across the nine provinces.

This allows the national technical team to scout and pick the best players for the country’s various national teams and gives upcoming talent a platform to showcase their skills.

The Sasol League has and continues to afford many female footballers with an opportunity to participate in regular, competitive football throughout the year.

With the emergence of the SAFA Women’s National League (SWNL), teams now have more on the line than ever before. Champions-in-waiting, Mamelodi Sundowns, have set the benchmark for teams to emulate, a cue taken by the likes of JVW and Ma-Indies, who qualified via the national play-offs in December, with two more clubs set to be promoted come the end of the 2020 season.

KwaZulu-Natal’s 2019 champions, Sunflower WFC, who came agonisingly close to joining the #SWNL, will be going all out to ensure qualification this time around. Team manager Manah Nhlema is upbeat about what lies ahead.

“We need to approach the season with a positive attitude, we are starting afresh and we will put 100% effort and commitment to attain what our hearts desire,” said the manager.

The defending champ’s kick-off their title defence against Harding Shooting Stars on Sunday, 22 March at home.

Some provinces have already begun in earnest such as the prominent Gauteng region with the likes of Croesus and Soweto Fabulous bagging big wins this past weekend.

The 2020 edition of the Sasol Women’s League is bound to be exciting, tense and produce more goals than ever before. Fans are urged to come out in their numbers and support their favourite teams.
