5 March 2020 – The third tier of the South African footballing structure, ABC Motsepe League, has produced some scintillating action this season as well as individual brilliance. This has been most evident in the Gauteng edition of proceedings with a neck-and-neck battle between the top three clubs.

This coming weekend should prove to be yet another vital indicator in the grand scheme of things, not just for title honours but in the relegation stakes as well.

Friday, 6 March, will see five key fixtures taking place, all with a 15h00 kick-off except for the 13h00 midday game where the impressive Nike Centre will play host to La Masia FC vs Pele Pele FC. La Masia will be hoping to break into the top four while their rivals, who sit in third, will be gunning for the coveted top spot.

Later on that day, the same venue will see mid-table Dube Continental FC tackling joint leaders Pretoria Callies in a game that should have goals aplenty. Callies have been impressive this term and are only in second place due to an inferior goal difference.

Dondol Stars then welcome the plucky Orange Vaal Professional FC to TUT Pretoria Stadium. The away club sit in fourth and will still have title aspirations while Stars will be banking on their passionate home fans as they push for a top half finish.

Tembisa Sports Centre then travel to the Vosloorus Stadium to take on Blue Lions FC in what could prove to be a war of attrition. The home team will be smarting from a 1-0 home loss to Baberwa this past Tuesday while Tembisa will be aiming to better than their current situation as they languish in 11th.

The day’s final game will see an intense Alexandra derby taking place at Alexandra stadium as AJ Alexandra United FC face neighbours Alexandra Black Aces FC in a fixture that never fails to deliver. A packed house is expected with pundits predicting a high-scoring draw.

Saturday, 7 March will see the three remaining matches taking place, the first of which sees M.Tigers FC welcoming African All Stars FC to Chloorkop at 12h00. It is a must-win game for the home club who currently sit in a precarious 15th position, while their opposition will be looking to improve on an already credible sixth position.

12th placed Leruma United then entertain 13th placed Mamelodi All Stars FC at Sinaba Stadium with both teams desperate for three points. The key to success here will be tight defences as both clubs have leaked goals in recent times. Kick-off is at 15h00.

The weekend’s final match will see log leaders Baberwa FC hosting bottom placed Remember Elite Sports Academy in what on paper looks to be a straight forward victory for the home club. However, we all know how much fight relegation-threatened teams always display. Baberwa have scored more goals than any other unit though and more goals are expected on their home patch. The game will take place at Mehlaring Stadium at 15h00.
