17 February 2020 – Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued with their dominance in the SAFA National Women’s League (SNWL) this past weekend as they thrashed First Touch Academy 11-1 at Sundown’s headquarters in Chloorkop.

The clash took place on Saturday, 15 February.

With the victory, Masandawana maintain their place at the helm of the SNWL log standings – they lead second-placed Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) by nine points.

The latter dropped two points after they were held to a 2-2 draw by the University of the Western Cape (UWC) on Sunday (16 February 2020) at the TUT Main Stadium.

The 11-1 win means Sundowns have beaten TUT’s record with the most number of goals scored in an SNWL match – TUT beat the University of Johannesburg 10-0 on 11 January 2020.

Star striker Rhoda Mulaudzi of Masandawana, scored five goals in the match to move to the top of the scorers list with 32 goals, just one more than second-placed Hildah Magaia of TUT – she scored one against UWC.

This goal-scoring spree has also seen the log leaders leapfrog TUT with the number of goals for – they are now on 75, just one ahead of the students.

While Sundowns may be lethal in front of goals, some teams have found the going tough.

Bottom-placed Richmond Ladies, 11th-placed Tsunami Queens and 10th-placed Thunderbirds Ladies FC have lost 16, 15 and 12 matches respectively in 19 games.

After a string of losses, Thunderbirds turned the tables on Coal City Wizards, beating them 4-3.
