1 February 2020 – Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki made special time out on Friday night to come and wish South Africa’s National Under-20 Women’s team (Basetsana) well in their today’s 2020 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Zambia.
This match will take place at Orlando Stadium at 15h00.
Ntseki, who will not be at the match venue due senior national team commitments in profiling possible Bafana Bafana players for their upcoming 2021 AFCON qualifier fixtures, stated that this Basetsana squad has all the potential in the world to qualify for this year’s Costa Rica/Panama 2020 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup tournament.
Bafana Bafana will face São Tomé and Príncipe in both home and away 2021 AFCON qualifier fixtures on 27 and 31 March respectively.
“There is a saying in football which states: ‘History does not win you games’,” Ntseki said in his address to Basetsana players. “And so it is going to be very important not to be caught up in how you performed in the preliminary round, first leg tie against Zambia (Basetsana won 2-0), but rather focus on this current match with the highest desire of wanting to win it, too.”
“I was with South Africa’s National Under-17 Women’s team (Bantwana) when they qualified for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup which took place in Uruguay,” Ntseki added. “The coaching staff has done a stunning in preparing this team from your first leg meeting against Zambia to now, and it is now up to you to make full use of this opportunity and progress into the next round.”
Basetsana coach, Jabulile Baloyi, said that she felt really touched by coach Molefi’s remarks, adding that she and her charges will do everything in their powers to make the country proud.
