25 November 2019 – Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki has congratulated David Notoane and his charges for qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The South African U-23 Men’s National Team achieved the feat on Friday, 22 November after beating Ghana 6-5 on penalties following a 2-2 stalemate at the end of the regulation 90 minutes at the Cairo Stadium in Egypt.

The victory earned them a bronze medal, and they joined Egypt – the eventual winners of the 2019 U-23 AFCON – as well as Cote d’Ivoire who finished second.

Six other teams have also secured a spot in Tokyo – hosts Japan, France, Germany, Romania, Spain and New Zealand.

South Africa is heading to their third Olympic Men’s tournament, their second in a row.

They participated in the 2000 Games in Sydney and in Rio 2016 Shakes Mashaba and Owen Da Gama respectively.
