21 November 2019 – The South African Football Association’s (SAFA) Men’s Regional League (SAB) is well under way across the nation and has already produced a plethora of goals, tense derby’s, classic comebacks and more.

The one particular edition that has caught the eye of late is the Western Cape Men’s Regional League. If last season was anything to go by, this specific league was always going to produce the quality expected in a region such as this.

A thrilling weekend of action awaits in the Mother City with all 16 SAB teams looking to take proceedings to the next level.

Friday, 22 November, will see two key fixtures, the first of which takes place at Hickory Road Astro Turf. Home team Nova Nacional FC entertain Cape Umoya FC in what should turn out to be a battle for the ages as both teams find themselves at opposite ends of the table and will be desperate for three points for different reasons. Kick-off is at 19h00.

In the same time-slot, Cape Town United travel to Greenwood Athletic’s Solo Street Sports Complex in search of a much-needed victory as they currently sit in 15th spot on the log. The home team will be buoyed by their plucky away victory last weekend.

Saturday, 23 November will see five interesting games for fans to look forward to. In the early 13h00 kick-off, home club Ocean View AFC tackle Silver Spurs FC at Milky Way Stadium. Spurs currently sit in 3rd and will be hoping for another professional performance in order to keep pressure on the top-placed teams.

Site C in Lingelethu will then play host to the titanic Rebels FC and Bellstar United clash at 15h00. The visitors languish in 13th spot and will be looking to their lethal attacking stars to do the business come Saturday.

In another 15h00 fixture, Matroosfontein FC welcome the well-drilled Woodlands United FC to Elsbury Park. Both clubs have shown indifferent form thus far and will be hoping to gain some consistency going into December and the festive period.

Heideveld Sports Complex and Junction Rovers then play host to Bluegum United in the final 15h00 kick-off. The mid-table teams will be going all out for the coveted three points. Both clubs currently have an even goal difference.

The day’s final game will see Goals 50 United taking on the visiting Crystal Palace FC, also at Heideveld. Palace will be hoping to hold on to their fourth place with another solid defensive performance, a hallmark of the team of late.

The weekend concludes on Sunday, 24 November with one lone blockbuster fixture as leaders Hanover Park entertain Cape Town City FC at Downberg Road Sports Complex. The match takes place at 15h00. Can the traditional giants hold on to their lead at the top or will their fierce rivals close in on them? Pundits are predicting a tense draw with both teams cancelling each other out.

The Western Cape region and all relevant Local Football Associations (LFAs) urge fans to come out in their numbers and show support to their various clubs.
