19 November 2019 – Bafana Bafana have moved to second place in Group C of the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers following their 1-0 win over Sudan on Sunday, 17 November 2019 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
Ghana shot to the top of the standings after their second victory in the competition when they defeated Sao Tome e Principe 1-0 away.
The Black Stars of Ghana also accounted for the scalp of South Africa in a 2-0 victory in a match played at the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday, 14 November.
The group leaders have amassed six points in two matches, while Bafana Bafana and Sudan are both tied at three apiece with South Africa having a better goal difference.
Sao Tome is yet to collect points or even score a goal.
Sudan have scored the most of goals in the group – four, and was against Sao Tome.
There haven’t been any draws so far in Group C.
Ghana is the only country not to have conceded so far.
After two matches played, the 2021 AFCON qualifiers will take a break and resume in 2020.
Bafana Bafana will be involved in back to back clashes against Sao Tome – the first match will be away at the end of August, followed almost immediately by the home leg early in September in August.
During that period, Ghana will host Sudan and then travel for the away leg.
It is almost certain that after this stage, it will become clearer as to who will book their place in Cameroon.
In October, South Africa will host Ghana in October, and will then be away to Sudan in November for the final match of the qualifiers.
Only the top two teams in the group will qualify.
