15 November 2019– Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk has been named as the official Dana Cup Ambassador.

The Dana Cup has made an agreement with Janine and her football academy, the JVW Girls Football Development in South Africa.

JVW have participated in the Dana Cup in 2016, 2018 and 2019. This year, Janine came straight from the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, where she captained the South African Women’s team through their very first World Cup campaign, to coach JVW during the Dana Cup 2019.

Janine enjoyed her first Dana Cup tournament immensely; she found the organization to be top class and the development of her players who participated was impressive.

After taking part in the tournament and playing against teams from different corners of the World, they return home stronger and wiser and they spread their new football knowledge while playing in their own domestic league within South Africa.

Janine has just recently signed a contract to play for Fortuna Hjørring in the Danish League, so it was an obvious choice to take her on as an official ambassador for the Dana Cup in South Africa and worldwide.

Janine has played for Houston Dash in the USA, the first South African player signed to that league. She holds the record as the most capped South African football player of any gender, currently 170 caps. The first Captain in South Africa’s history to lead a South African Team at the Women’s World Cup.

With her extensive knowledge of football, coaching, travelling and taking part in tournaments, we feel Janine is a perfect match for the Dana Cup and we are honored to welcome her on board as an Official Dana Cup Ambassador.

The agreement will see JVW Girls Football Development team take part in the Dana Cup each summer, as a part of their current development program and we will welcome guest players to training and short stays at our Dana Cup AcademyDana Cup SportsCenter and Fortuna Hjørring.
