13 November 2019 — South Africa’s Egypt ambassador, His Excellency Vusi Mavimbela, made time out from his busy schedule to come and wish South Africa’s National Under-23 side well ahead of their final AFCON Group B encounter against Nigeria this Friday at the Al Salam Stadium.

Mavimbela stated that the national team handled themselves really well in their last two Group B games, adding that they just need to finish the job in their final group encounter against their West African counterparts.

The match between South Africa and Nigeria’s national Under-23 side will kick off at 20h00.

As it stands, South Africa are top of Group B with four points after two matches played, while Nigeria trail a point behind them in second place position.

“I am very pleased with how the team performed in their previous two group matches,” Mavimbela said. “The team played really well, especially in our second group encounter against Ivory Coast.

“Teboho Mokoena’s free kick was just a marvel to watch. Pure quality. Our wish is to see this team winning this tournament,” Mavimbela added. “I also wish them the very best of luck in their ambitions qualifying for next year’s Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.

South Africa only need a top three finish in this tournament in order to achieve that goal and His Excellency stated that he had all the belief in the world that they can achieve that goal.
