12 November 2019 — Cape Town City FC defender Keanu Cupido arrived on Tuesday (12 November) to form part of South Africa’s National Under-23 squad that is competing in this year’s U-23 AFCON currently ongoing in Cairo, Egypt.

Cupido becomes the final missing puzzle piece of a 21-man squad coach David Notoane had initially called up to serve the nation in this year’s quadrennial continental showpiece.

The 21-year old centre-back stated that he felt truly honoured to have been chosen to represent his country at this level, adding that he will do everything in his power to contribute in helping the team to qualify for next year’s Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.

“It truly is an honor to be here,” Cupido said. “I would also like to thank the coach (David Notoane) and his technical staff for their trust and belief in me. I will do everything in my might to help the team and contribute in whichever way I can.”

In today’s matchup, South Africa will take on Ivory Coast in their second U-23 AFCON Group B tie at the Al Salam Stadium.

This match will kick-off at 17h00.
