16 October 2019 — South Africa’s National Under-17 men’ side (Amajimbos) bowed out of this year’s COSAFA Men’s Under-17 Championship following their 1-1 draw against Eswatini at Kamuzu Stadium in their final Group A tie.

This result means that both Zambia and Eswatini will progress into this year’s Southern regional football tournament’ semi-finals, after hosts Malawi lost 3-2 to Zambia in the final Group A match.

This was Malawi’ second consecutive defeat, following their 2-1 defeat against Eswatini played on 14 October.

In this matchup, Amajimbos dominated matters from the onset, however, were unlucky to bury many of their chances created in both halves.

Their only goal in this match came in the second period when debutant Thabang Mahlangu pulled a piledriver outside the 18-yard box on the far side to make matters even with their opponents.

Eswatini’s first goal came in the 41st minute when referee Thabang Nkhahle adjudged Mpendulo Makhanya’s free kick take to have gone over the line together with goalkeeper Werner Oosthuizen when he clung onto to it.

Amajimbos could have been 2-1 up in the 88th minute when striker Neo Dikgale headed home a cross from Tshepo Modise on the near side. However, that goal was disallowed after the referee blew for foul play committed on Eswatini’ shot stopper, Siyabonga Magagula.
