09 October 2019 — South Africa’s National Under-17′ (Amajimbos) side arrived safely in the city of Blantyre, Malawi following a 2-hour flight from Johannesburg ahead of this year’s COSAFA Under-17 Men’s Championship.
This eight-nations Southern regional football tournament is set to run from 11 — 20 October.
Amajimbos are pitted in Group A, and will face hosts Malawi on 12 October at Mpira Stadium, before they lock horns with Zambia at the very same venue and Eswatini at Kamuzu Stadium, in their remaining two group matches.
Amajimbos’ interim coach, Vela Khumalo, reported a clean bill of health ahead of their first Group A encounter against the hosts, adding that he and his charges will use these remaining days to get ready for their opening group match.
“We had a safe flight traveling here,” Khumalo said. “I am also glad to state that we have no injuries concerns from this squad leading up to our opening Group A match against Malawi.
“We had good preparations leading up to this tournament and we will use the time left very wisely to get boys ready for the battles that lie ahead of us.”
Khumalo added: “I still maintain that this team is not just here to add numbers, but to compete and fight in winning this year’s Southern regional football tournament.”
