23 September 2019 – Durban Ladies FC remain rooted at the bottom of the SAFA National Women’s League’ (SNWL) standings following a 4-1 hiding the received from First Touch Academy at Germiston Stadium on Sunday, 22 September.

This was the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit’s fourth consecutive defeat after having lost to Tsunami Queens FC (1-0), Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies FC (6-0) and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (3-0) leading up to this tie.

In total, the coastal side has conceded 14 goals, while managing to score just one after four league matches played.

Interim coach, Menzi Nezinzioya, said that he was disappointed with how the results have not been forthcoming, adding that he hopes his charges will awake from their slumber soon rather than later.

“This has not been an easy period for us,” Nezinzioya said. “This team is still struggling to adjust to the demands of playing at this level and hopefully we will get ourselves out of this situation we are now in.

“The team has conceded a total of 14 goals after just four league matches played and we are not happy about that,” Nezinzioya added. “It is no secret that our start in this campaign has not been a good one, however, we will continue fighting to get better.”

Academy, on the other hand, would want to continue building from their solid performance which saw the likes of Easter Ndou, Makabateng Radingoana, Banyana Banyana star player Noko Matlou and Tshegofatso Makinta, registering their names on the score sheet on the day.

This was Academy’s second win following a slow start which saw them suffer a 4-2 defeat to Tshwane University of Technology in their opening league match, before playing to a 2-2 draw against Coal City Wizard FC.

In their third league match, Academy hammered Golden Ladies FC 4-0 in a tie which proved to be the beginning of good things to come regarding their performance up in the final third.

Academy though, remain 5th on the league standings while being equal on seven points with Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies, who are a place above them with a game in hand.

In other matches, Thunderbirds Ladies FC came back from a 1-0 lead to beat Tsunami Queens FC 3-1 in a highly contested tie which took place in Germiston Stadium as well.

Their first league win in this campaign saw them move three places up the log standings to occupy the number seven spot with now four points in their bag.

Meanwhile, Coal City Wizard FC played to a 0-0 draw against Golden Ladies FC.

Wizard moved a place up the league table and are now third with eight points, while Golden Ladies remain sixth with five points after four matches played.
