30 August 2019 – Nqobile Gansa and Gcobisa Madiya were on target as Executive Ladies fought hard to earn the three points against title-rivals Ayakha Stars on Saturday, 24 August, recording a 2-1 win to move within two points of the Eastern Cape Sasol League Inland Stream leaders Red Roses Ladies.
Executives had to come from behind to beat Ayakha after conceding an early goal. Gansa levelled matters with 10 minutes to the break before Madiya grabbed a winner midway through the second half.
“I’m very satisfied with where we are in the standings,” said Executive Ladies Assistant Coach Mthetho Bashe.
“So far we have only lost two games in the league and winning games against our title-rivals gives our players a huge boost in confidence, now they have all the belief that they can go all the way and bring the title back home.”
Executive’s win moves Bashe’s side up to second place two points ahead of third-placed Ayakha and just two points adrift league leaders Red Roses.
Red Roses suffered their only second defeat of the season on Saturday when they slipped to a narrow 2-1 loss at the hands of Cumakala. A win for Ladyfre-based outfit meant they have collected four points from a possible six against the league leaders after the two sides played an entertaining 2-2 draw in the first round.
Red Roses lead the standings with 19 points from nine matches played in the 14-game season while Cumakala also closed the gap to the leaders to only six points.
Elsewhere, Amanqilo Birds completed a double over Eastern Rangers with a 2-1 win at home which left the visitors only two points away from the relegation zone.
