29 August 2019 – The iconic Orlando Stadium will play host to Banyana Banyana’s return leg of the second round Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifier against neighbours Botswana.

The clash takes place on Tuesday, 3 September 2019.

Kickoff is at 19h00 and entry is free.

The match was originally set for the Dobsonville Stadium, but has since been moved to Orlando.

This will be second time Banyana Banyana play at the Soweto venue – the last time was in 2011 (Saturday, 27 August) when they took on Ethiopia in the first leg of the London 2012 Olympic qualfiers under former coach Joseph Mkhonza, with the squad captained by midfielder Amanda Dlamini, who has since retired.

Only five players in the current team were called up for that match eight years ago – Andile Dlamini, Nothando Vilakazi, Mamello Makhabane, Robyn Moodaly and Noko Matlou.

“It has been a long time since we last played at this venue, and we are all excited to return there and to once again play at such an iconic stadium – it is in the heart of the community and we urge all of them to come out in their numbers to support Banyana Banyana as we will be playing right on their doorstep,” said Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis.

The South African Senior Women’s National Team is currently in Botswana to face the host nation in the first leg scheduled for Friday, 30 August at the National Stadium in the capital Gaborone.

The squad arrived on Wednesday afternoon (28 August).
