21 August 2019 — South Africa’s National Under-20 Women’s (Basetsana) side accumulated three points in their second Group B match after Zambia decided to withdraw from their participation in this year’s All Africa Games women’s football tournament.

According to the FIFA rules, a team which fails to honour a fixture will automatically lose the match 2-0 to a team they were supposed to play against on that particular day or night.

The tournament organisers sent an email to SAFA’s Administrative Team Manager, Ms Nomathemba Zitha, stating the following: “Dear madam, kindly be informed that the Zambia women’s (Under-20) football team has withdrawn from this year’s All Africa Games women’s football tournament.

“Consequently, all Zambia matches are canceled and the opponent is considered as the winner of the match.”

Interim coach Simphiwe Dludlu’s charges will continue with their preparations until their final Group B match against Cameroon scheduled for 24 August at the Stade Boubker Ammar in Rabat will be played.

It is only after this fixture that the semi-finalists from Group B, will be confirmed.
