20 August 2019 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) in conjunction with Lotto SA have commenced a pilot 8-day D License coaching course in the Northern Cape town of Upington.

The Upington coaching course is an all women affair.

The experimental course will run from 16-23 August 2019 and according to SAFA’s head of coaching, Frans Mogashoa, they are checking on the pros and cons of the project before rolling it out nationally.

The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has suggested prolonging the D-License coaching course from its original 5 days to 8 days going forward.

“What we are trying to ascertain in this particular workshop is to see the viable of the contents; what needs to be worked on or redesigned.

“We also need to check whether there are gaps or need for improvement before we roll it out nationally,” said Mogashoa.

The key elements of the current D-License include:

  • The South African football philosophy
  • Football complexity and intricacies
  • Characteristics of the needs of kids between the ages of 6-12 years and
  • Life support and first aid among others issues.
