16 August 2019 — South Africa’s National Under-20’s (Amajita) first 2019 All Africa Games Group A match against Morocco has been postponed by the tournament organisers and will be rescheduled.

SAFA Head of Delegation Linda Zwane, who had a one-on-one engagement with the tournament organizers at the match venue prior the scheduled kick-off time, said he only got informed of the news as Amajita were about to head out for their warm up session this afternoon.

“Our boys were about to head out for their warm up session when CAF representatives came to me to tell us that our match has been called off until further notice,” Zwane said. “This could be because of the issue which existed between us (SAFA) and SASCOC.

“That matter, though, has since been resolved by the ministry of sports back in South Africa hence we are now here and we will hear when our match is rescheduled.”

Zwane further stated that the postponement of this fixture will not have any effect on Amajita’s other two Group A fixtures, as they will be played on the given dates.

In their other two groups fixtures, Amajita will take on Nigeria at the Stade Moulay Hassan on 20 August, before they lock horns with Burkina Faso on 23 August in their final group fixture at the very same venue.

Zwane added that Amajita just need to be on standby regarding on which date the tournament organisers might decide on the date Amajita’s Group A match against Morocco would be played.

“Our other two group fixtures will be played on already issued out dates,” Zwane said. “This postponed fixture will not have any effect on either of them.

“The only thing that we will be monitoring is the date in which the tournament organisers will give out for this postponed fixture. We need to be ready for it when it is announced.”
