15 August 2019 –The South African U-20 Men’s National Team (Amajita) are on their way to Morocco to compete in this year’s All Africa Games.

The squad flew out last night (Wednesday, 14 August) via Munich, Germany.

They are expected to arrive in the North African country later today.

Amajita have been in a camp for a week, training under the watchful eye of caretaker coach Helman Mkhalele.

The former Bafana Bafana winger is travelling with a squad of 18 players.

South Africa will face the hosts in their first Group A match on 16 August at Stade Moulay Hassan.

This tournament is set to run from 16 — 30 August in the city of Kenitra and Rabat.

Mkhalele also admitted that this was not an easy process to go through as most of his experienced Amajita players where not available for selection.

“I am very happy with the final squad that we have assembled here for this tournament. We would have loved to have had our experienced players who competed in both the 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup tournaments, however, they were not available for selection due to club and schooling commitment,” said Mkhalele.

“However, having said that, this will also serve as an opportunity for us to assess some of the new players that we have brought in to see as to what they can offer the national U-20s moving forward. We have also roped in players who have worked with coach Molefi Ntseki in the Under-17 level to help fast track their growth in the sport and as national team players. In the end, it is truly up to this group of players to make full use of this opportunity and prove what they can offer at this level.”

Mkhalele stated that he and his charges will do everything in their power to make the country proud in this year’s All Africa Games edition.

Amajita will also face Nigeria and Burkina Faso in their group.

The top two nations will progress into the knockout stages of this tournament.
