7 August 2019 – Golden Ladies midfielder Priscilla Pesa could not believe her ears when she was told that the head coach of Banyana Banyana was looking for her contact details.
And as soon as she made contact, it was the start of a realization of a dream.
Finally, she would get to represent her country – something she had longed for, but at some point thought would not happen. With the Pesa would also get a chance to rub shoulders with players she had always admired.
She was named in the squad of 20 players doing duty at the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship currently underway in Port Elizabeth.
Pesa admits that she needed a bit of adjustment to cope with the rigours of playing at such a high level.
And she didn’t have to wait long for her debut – and came on as a second half substitute against Madagascar in a 3-0 win.
Born in Vereeniging in Gauteng, Pesa is based in Mahikeng where she is studying Human Resources at the North West University, and plays her club football for local Sasol League side, Golden Ladies who were crowned the 2018 Provincial Champions.
The achievement took the team to the Sasol League National Playoffs in Kimberly, and that is where she was spotted for Banyana Banyana.
Now that she has tasted life in the Senior Women’s National Team, she wants a permanent stay, but she is well aware it is not going to be easy as there are many talented players in the country.
Here’s her story:
