1 August 2019 – The South AfricanU20 Women’s National Team (Basetsana) beat Zimbabwe 3-0 in their opening match of the 209 COSAFA U20 Championships, which took place at Gelvandale Stadium, in Port Elizabeth.

Second half goals from Tyler – Bree Joss, Shakeerah Jacobs and Ember Edwards in the 50th, 63rd and 90th minuets respectively, gave South Africa their first 3 points of the tournament.

Head Coach Simphiwe Dludlu was very happy with the performance and believes that Basetsana can build from this win.

“We are proud of the girls for their performance but believe that we can build from this. They took a while a settle in especially playing against the strong winds of Port Elizabeth, but they performed well, we are happy that they managed to follow all our instructions in restraining Zimbabwe and are happy that we got the much need points;”said Dludlu.

“We still have some work to do in training with regards t our defensive approach but we will work on these minor things in training;”concluded Dludlu.

Basetsana will now take on Namibia in their second match of Group A , who beat Mozambique 2-1in their opening encounter of the 2019 COSAFA U20 Women’s Championships, on 3 August 2019 at Gelvandale Stadium , Port Elizabeth at 14h00
