1 August 2019 – Gauteng team manager Mxolisi Mgomezulu says the impetus behind his side’s unbeaten streak in this year’s SAFA/SAB U21 League National Championship group fixtures has been driven by one thing — and that is to win this year’s championship title.

Gauteng booked their place into the knockout rounds of this year’s SAFA/SAB U21 competition after winning their first three games of their Group B. They scored a total of six goals, only conceding two in the process.

Mgomezulu stated that he was pleased with how his team has played so far and that they now cannot afford to drop the ball now they are in the semifinal stages of this competition.

“We are still left with one group match to go and believe you me when I tell that we are not going to rest on our laurels now that we in the semis,” Mgomezulu said. “Our goal is to win every match we participate in because we want to maintain that winning culture and mentally this team has shown it has.

“Our goal is to take it one game at a time and hopefully reach the final as well. Our overall ambition is to clinch this champion title and take it back to our home Province”

Another side which is yet to concede in this tournament are Group A leaders, Mpumalanga, who only drew once out of their three group outings.  They are currently sitting on seven points, two points ahead hosts, North West province.

Mgomezulu, though, stated that it does not really matter as to who they will face in the semifinals, as they have a balanced squad that can compete with any side on any given day.

“We have a very balanced squad which has enabled us to rotate players in all of our group fixtures we played in,” Mgomezulu said. “That has been key for us because all of the players we have given the platform to perform, they have done so with merit.

“We are not sure as to who are we going to face in the semifinals,” Mgomezulu added. “Both Mpumalanga and the North West have been very consistent and we are ready to do battle with either side.
