25 July 2019 – Moria Sweepers Ladies sealed the Limpopo Sasol League Stream A title with three games to spare after a 6-2 drubbing of title-rivals Mandebele Happy Fighters at Moria Ground on Sunday, 21 July.
But it was a title that was really won in the opening months of the season, with Sweepers having been top of the standings from the opening weekend. With only one draw and undefeated in 11 games, Sweepers just cruised to their first-ever Stream A title.
“We worked hard for the title. When you win it by 10 points and with games to spare, people can think it’s easy. But it’s not, especially when you never won the title before,” Sweepers head coach Tau Modiba said when speaking to SAFA.net. “When you win 10 games, one after another, it speaks volume about the mentality of the team.”
Sweepers are the league’s top scorers with 37 goals and have the second-best defensive record in the league. Their result on Sunday put them on 31 points, whilst second-placed Happy Fighters have 21.
Mandebele Happy Fighters head coach Kekana congratulated the new champions and said they deserved the title.
“It’s impressive,” Kekana said. “You have to take your hat off to the performances they delivered on the pitch and the drive they have.”
Sweepers will know in a few weeks who will be their opponents between Ma-Indies Ladies and Shayandima Morning Stars Ladies in the provincial playoffs as the duo continue to battle for a Limpopo Sasol League Stream B title.
