21 July 2019 – Last June, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ahmad Ahmad announced that he had called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to create an unprecedented partnership between FIFA and CAF that would allow the continuation of reforms aimed at modernising the governing body of African football.

Today, at the CAF general assembly held in Cairo, the two organisations signed a protocol outlining a road map with the areas and objectives of the CAF-FIFA partnership through which FIFA will provide its expertise to assess the current situation in CAF and help accelerate the ongoing reform process.

The 41st CAF Ordinary General Assembly took place on Thursday, 18 July 2019 in Cairo,

This road map will be implemented with the close collaboration of FIFA General Delegate for Africa Fatma Samoura and CAF General Secretary Mouad Hajji, working closely with the CAF administration and a group of experts, selected according to their expertise.

Samoura is expected to lead the reforms and governance at CAF for a six-month renewable period effective August 1.

“Dear delegates, I have appealed to FIFA. This call is on my own initiative and I assume total responsibility. Faced with a situation that worsened step by step, I asked the President of FIFA, Mr. Ginani Infantino to bring me an interim support.

“He has approved our sister Fatma Samoura, FIFA General General, to accompany us in the implementation phase of new structures and more generally to help CAF to continue the reforms that we started, as well as follow the investigations that FIFA’s Governance Committee would like to engage on the management of the Central Administration,” CAF President Ahmad Ahmad said in his opening address.

Ahmad signed on behalf whilst FIFA President Gianni Infantino appended his signature on behalf of world football governing body.

The road map covers three main areas and consists of 11 points. The full road map can be found below.
