15 July 2019 – The Egyptian Futsal National Team walked away as overall winners of the recently held Futsal 4 Nations Tournament which was hosted by the South African Indoor Football Association (SAIFA) from 10 -14 July 2019 at Wits University.
Egypt topped the group with 7 points after securing one draw and two wins.
In their opening match, Egypt played to a 3-3 draw with Mozambique. The newly crowned champions secured their first win in dramatic fashion against Zambia in their second match when they had to fight hard to secure a 5-4 win. They then went on to beat hosts South Africa 4-3 in what was described the match of the tournament.
South Africa came second place. They beat Zambia 4-1 in their opening match and beat Mozambique 3-2 in another exciting match of the tournament.
“This was a very fuitful and entertaining tournament where great talent was on display. It showed Africa as a continent has huge talent,” said Match Commissioner and SAFA NEC member Mr Willie Mooka.
“As SAIFA we would like to thank all 4 Nations for their participation in this tournament and we wish them all well in their qualifiers for the 2022 Futsal African Cup of Nations,” concluded Mooka.
The South African National Futsal team will play Mauritius between 21 and 30 October 2019, where the winner will look to qualify for the 2022 Futsal African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Morocco from 17 -26 April 2022.
