9 July 2019 – MYSAFA’s integration with the FIFA Digital Football Registration and Transfer Suite means SA amateur and professional football clubs will be some of the first to benefit from FIFA’s recently-ratified reforms to the training rewards system. FIFA has released an informational video explaining the impact of the changes.

FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) provides financial compensation to clubs developing professional players in the form of training & solidarity payments. Clubs that contribute to a football players development between the ages of 12 to 23 are meant to be rewarded once a player signs his first professional contract and/or transfers internationally. Historically only about 20% of those payments were made to clubs due to lack of information, proper documentation and access to legal assistance at the training clubs.

Under the reform package, 100% of payments will be deducted from transfer fees and paid to training clubs. This however can only be done through a FIFA-approved player and club registration system. In South Africa that system is MYSAFA.

FIFA’s circular to member associations also spells out the reform package implications in clear terms:

“Only electronically registered players identified with a FIFA ID are eligible to participate in organised football.”
