29 June 2019 – Bafana Bafana key players Percy Tau and Bongani Zungu are both hopeful that if the team sticks to its game plan and plays to their full potential against Morocco on Monday, they will get the result that will see them through to the next round.

Bafana Bafana just need to avoid defeat against Morocco on Monday, 1 July at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo to book a place in the knock out stages of this on-going AFCON tournament.

Though they beat neighbours Namibia 1-0 on Friday, 28 June, Bafana Bafana created a host of chances and with a bit of some luck, could have come out with a healthier scoreline. However, the three points they garnered on Friday have put them in good stead for the knock out stage.

Tau, who was named Man-of-the-Match said ‘things’ are beginning to come together for the team and are improving by the game. He said the Namibia game was tough but the team is now beginning to gel as a unit.

“It was a tough game but we are work in process and we are taking game by game and hopefully we will get the result we would like to have in the last match against Morocco.

“I think overall it was a better game than the one against Ivory Coast (which Bafana Bafana lost 1-0). The positives are that this time we converted one of our chances. In fact, we created lots of chances but unfortunately we could not take most of them,” he said.

“Hopefully on a better day we will able to take most of the chances that we create,” he said at the post match press conference.

His sentiments were echoed by midfielder Bongani Zungu who netted the only goal of the evening that separated the two southern African sides.

Zungu said the most important thing were the three points but added the team was improving as the tournament progresses.

“Happy with the three points and I hope we can get better and better from here going forward and play some good football,” said Zungu who added that the second half was more structured than the first.

“Even in the first half, we played good football but we knew they would be dangerous on the counter attacks but in the second half, we stepped up our game and we were confident that the goal would come.

“The Morocco game (on Monday) would be a tough game but we are determined to get the result and qualify for the next round,” added Zungu addressing journalists in the mixed zone.
