20 June 2019 – The battle for promotion to the Sasol Women’s League is in Ekurhuleni is in full swing after the regional league got underway a few weeks ago.
The league features amateur clubs who are looking at gaining promotion to the Sasol League which is a stepping stone to the soon coming National Women’s League.
Only two games have been played so far with Kathorus United registering consecutive victories to boost their confidence as they look to clinch the title.
United came from behind to register a hard fought 3-2 win over Phomolong Ladies away from home which was preceded by a comfortable 6-2 victory at home over Tsakane Ladies in the opening fixture of the season.
Kempton Park Stars are the only side that is yet to collect a point after two matches while Tsakane Ladies and Kathorus 11 FC are also pointless but with a game to spare compared to Kempton Park Stars.
Stars’ shine was dimmed in both their matches where they went down 2-0 in the opening round against Tigers FC before a crushing 10-0 defeat against Masututsa Tseki Diski last weekend. Stars have an even tougher assignment against log leaders, Kathorus United this weekend who are also looking at stretching their lead at the top.
