18 June 2019 – While all eyes have been on Banyana Banyana over the past few weeks, the Sasol Women’s League has been in full swing with some exciting women’s football taking place across the country.

The Western Cape leg of the Sasol-sponsored league has been quite an interesting stream, with Spurs WFC leading the pack after 10 rounds of fixtures.

The log leaders have been in fine form this season, collecting maximum points in all their fixtures and showing no signs of slowing down. Their latest victims this past weekend was Highveld Ladies who were subjected to a 4-1 home defeat by the title favourites.

This was the second consecutive defeat for Highveld who conceded the same amount of goals the previous week with a 4-0 loss to Vasco Da Gama.

UCT is another team to watch this season. They have climbed to second position after a string of impressive results. The University side unfortunately went down 2-1 to the high in confidence Vasco Da Gama.

This was the first loss for UCT who now have nine victories out of ten.

Also worth mentioning in the Western Cape title race is third placed Santos who secured their eighth victory out of a possible ten this season. Their victory came in an away clash against a resilient Cape Town Roses which went 2-1 in their favour.

Burnley United will need to find a solution for the defense which has seen them concede 24 goals in 10 matches. They are rooted at the bottom of the table with without a single point and their next fixture against Manenberg Ladies is a must win, if not a draw at least.

Manenberg are 10th on the table after registering an impressive 4-1 home victory over Milano United.
