5 June 2019 – Bafana Bafana entered the third day as preparations for the upcoming 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt got intense.
Coach Stuart Baxter said he was happy with the three days of training so far adding that he had not yet finalised his final 23-man squad which he will take to Egypt.
Bafana Bafana leave the country for Dubai on Monday, 10 June 2019 to intensify their training before travelling to Cairo, Egypt where the team will be based and play all their opening Group games.
In Dubai they are scheduled to play Ghana and a yet to be named opponent before heading for Egypt.
After Wednesday’s two training sessions, coach Baxter said he was impressed by the boys’ physical condition with most of the players having come out of a gruelling season.
He said though, he was still toying on who to have and who to leave out before naming his final team either late on Saturday or this coming Sunday, just a day before the team jets out to Dubai.
The team has had no injury scare although the likes of Kermit Erasmus, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Thulani Serero where rested in between the sessions just to give them a breather.
The team will have a full day rest on Thursday, 6 June 2019 as they will have to undergo the AFCON tournament medical tests.
The team will resume the training programme on Friday, and will play a practice match among themselves on Saturday as the coach narrows his final team selection.
Bafana Bafana are in Group D together with Ivory Coast, Namibia and Morocco.
They open their account with a match against the west Africans on June 24 and four days later clash with Namibia before rounding up their group matches with a titanic clash with Morocco on 1 July 2019.
