2 June 2019 – Midfielder Kholosa Biyana was left out of Banyana Banyana’s 2018 Women’s AFCON squad to Ghana due to injury and thought her chances of returning to the national team would never come.

While she was happy the team qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled for France, this increased her fears, as she was worried that she may not get a look in again.

But with a lot of determination, hard work and dedication, she worked her way back into the squad after rehabilitation and encouragement from many around her.

Biyana made her return at the beginning of this year in the international friendly match against Sweden and Netherlands in Cape Town, but she never got onto the field.

She travelled with the squad to Cyprus and got a run, and has never looked back.

The UKZN student has been named in the World Cup team of 23 players – to add to that, she has been selected captain of the USSA squad that will take place in Italy in July.

She will travel with Banyana Banyana teammates Amanda Dlamini, Mapaseka Mpuru, Ongeziwe Ndlangisa, Bongeka Gamede as well as Thinasonke Mbuli (Banyana Banyana assistant coach) who is the head coach of the USSA women’s team
