29 May 2019 – Zakhele Lepasa admits that he was very nervous at being call up to the senior national team (Bafana Bafana), which is currently in camp preparing for their opening match of the 2019 COSAFA Cup in Durban.

Lepasa , who plies his trade in the National First Division with TX Galaxy has had an outstanding season after breaking the record of being the first player ever in the first division to win a major tournament in the 2018/19 Nedbank Cup and winning player of the tournament.

Lepasa played a huge role in helping his team to qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup and is eager to help his country do well in the regional tournament.

“I believe I have an eye for goals, and as much as I was very nervous to join Bafana Bafana, I am managing the load very well. I want to be the answer to the national crisis we have had when it comes to converting the many chances we create We have had two training sessions, which have gone better than I expected, and I am happy at how well the players in the camp have received me,” said Lepasa.

“I am a living testimony that football is an amazing life lesson which shows how quickly life can change. Since winning the Nedbank Cup I am recognized everywhere we go.

This is a great honour for me, and I hope to play a part in ensuring that Bafana Bafana does well in the COSAFA Cup,” concluded Lepasa.

The South African Senior Men’s National Team will play a practice match against Zambia as part of their preparations for the quarterfinal match against Botswana in the COSAFA Cup.

This match is scheduled for Sunday, 2 June 2019 at Princess Magogo Stadium at 15h00.
