29 May 2019 – Hailing from the Matlosana Local Football Association (LFA) in Klerksdorp, North West Sasol League club, Clive United have already improved on last season’s performance and are hoping to go all the way this time around.

Currently nestled among the top five on the log table, with four victories from six and a +10 goal-difference, this charming football team are most certainly one to look out for in the near future.

Comparing himself to the legendary Jomo Sono, club founder, chairman, owner and head coach Mr Clive Soutter, prides himself on doing it all. SAFA.net had the opportunity to speak to the club owner and get his overall take on things.

“We were not too happy last year as we finished close to bottom of the log and were in real danger of ending last. Many of our players abandoned ship and left for other teams, which was unfortunate. This year I decided to find new, fresh talent and sourced girls from 13 years of age all the way to 18 and as you can see, they are doing marvellous,” enthused Soutter.

He also stressed how important the pre-season was.

“We normally begin preparations in early January. I have staff who work very hard on aspects such as fitness and conditioning. We are lucky to have some good equipment as well,” said the owner.

Soutter also reiterated what a fantastic talent pipeline he has going at the club, with many girls going on trial for the North West provincial team at U17 as well as U20 level. One player though, stands out for the club boss.

“We have a young centre-back by the name of Thandi Dondolo who is destined to one day play for Banyana Banyana and emulate the likes of Janine van Wyk. It’s her dream and yes she is that good and we are super proud,” said an excited Soutter.

Soutter does indeed have help as his daughter, Franciska Koopman, manages the club and is currently studying Sports Management.

The coach said that the aim is to win the league and participate in the proposed National Women’s League and urges fans to support the club.

“We would really love for fans to fill up our Alabama Stadium as this will motivate our girls. We would appreciate it,” concluded Soutter.

The team is in action this Saturday, 1June away to North West University at 15h00.
