14 May 2019 –The football fraternity is in mourning following the passing on of Boya Chetty, the former President and PRO of Port Elizabeth based side Shamroc FC.
The decorated football administrator passed away on Tuesday morning (14 May 2019) at a Port Elizabeth hospital after battling ill health for years.
According to the PRO of Northern Area Football Association (NAFA) in the Nelson Mandela Bay, Vallentine Brink, the late Chetty, who was also a prominent businessman, was a football person through and through.
“He served the sport until his death. He played football and after hanging up his boots became a distinguished administrator serving football as the PRO and then President of Shamroc FC and Hotels League.
“He also served in several SAFA committees and his life was about serving in football structures,” said Brink.
According to Brink, Chetty was involved in unity talks involving different races to bring the game under one administration.
“The late Chetty was an all-rounder when it comes to running the game of football. We are poorer without him and may his soul rest in peace,” added Brink.
SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan said in Chetty, football had lost a loyal servant.
“Here is an individual who dedicated his entire life to the game of football. It is a sad day for the sport,” said Dr Jordaan.
