3 May 2019 – It is the battle of the heavyweights in this weekend’s final round of Gauteng ABC Motsepe League fixtures as the top two sides, Dondol Stars and JDR Stars square off in what will also serve as league decider in the province’s ABC Motsepe League season.
Following a highly competitive season where the top spot was occupied by at least three different sides, the league title will finally be decided this weekend.
Currently leading the pack is Dondol with 65 points, just two ahead of second placed JDR who they travel to this weekend. With the fixture being an away tie for them, many predict Dondol could opt for a more defensive approach and settle for a draw which will be enough for them to be crowned champions.
Looking at the number of goals scored, there is not much that separates the two sides with Dondol on 52 and JDR on 51 while Dondol have conceded two more goals than their counterparts.
JDR will be backing on the support of the “12th Man” as they aim for a historic victory which will see them pip their rivals on the very last day of the season.
In other Gauteng fixtures, Baberwa who led the table for the better half of the season will be hoping to finish in a respectable third place position when they host Tembisa Sport Centre who are fresh from a 5-2 loss against FC Ma-Lion.
The result for Ma-Lion saw them leap frog Alexandra Black Aces in the fight for relegation. Aces face Vaal Proffesionals in a do or die match while XI Experience will be relegated from the league regardless of the outcome in their final match against fourth placed Dube Continental.
