30 April 2019 – The Limpopo Sasol League kicked off an exciting year for women’s soccer over the weekend. With the Women’s National League launch approaching, the 2019 Sasol League season will serve as a vital tournament for the players to market themselves to top tier clubs.

The 2019 Sasol League begins competition ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in France this June, which will see the South African Women’s National Team compete for the first time in such a global showpiece. Banyana Banyana will be represented by a host of players who came through the Sasol Leagues across the country.

With SAFA Limpopo having divided the Limpopo SASOL League into two streams for the 2019 season, the opening match in Stream A featured Kanatla Ladies and the University of Limpopo. The former champions and one of the title favourites this year, Kanatla Ladies, endured a frustrating start to their campaign when they fell to a 2-0 defeat on Saturday at the Moloto Stadium.

In the second Saturday match, newly-promoted Skimzozo FC defeated Mandebele Happy Fighters 3-2 at the Moletlane Ground in a highly entertaining goal feast.

Moria Sweepers recorded a 3-1 victory over Seven Stars Ladies in the third of four Stream A fixtures to top the table after match day 1.

Re Tla Dira Ladies succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at home against FC 50 Stars Ladies on Saturday on the last game of Stream A. The hosts are now rooted at the bottom of the league table.

In the other streamChippas Ladies got their season to a flying start when they thrashed their visitors from the Vhembe region, Tshandama Young Stars in a 6-0 riot.

Chippas fellow title-contenders, Shayandima Morning Stars Ladies avoided a fateful start to the campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory away to Real Mighty Ladies whilst Samba Girls who endured a difficult debut season last year got off to a promising start to the 2019 season with a 4-2 win over Botlokwa Ladies.

Week 2 of the Limpopo Sasol League will kick-off on Saturday, May 4th. With last season’s runners up Ma-Indies Ladies making a long trip to Nzhelele to entertain the Samba Girls.
