12 April 2019 – KwaZulu-Natal side, Summerfield Dynamos already have the KZN stream of the ABC Motsepe League title wrapped up with a game to spare. However, there is little time to rest on their laurels and even less so for any sort of celebration, with the all-important national play-offs looming in Cape Town.
Established in 1988 by a teacher in Summerfield, the outfit are one of the oldest clubs in the football-mad Chatsworth area. Following in the footsteps of former Premier Soccer League champions Manning Rangers, who stem from the same area, the club only entered the nation’s third tier competition a season ago and have stamped their authority ever since.
Club boss, chairman and owner Mr Collin Naidoo already has the National First Division (NFD) in his sights as he reflected on the successful season thus far.
“I am still in shock to be honest and it hasn’t hit me as yet. Words fail me at this point and I am very happy,” said an elated Naidoo.
Talking about the team’s road to success, Naidoo stated that immediate success was hoped for but not expected.
“We actually had a three year plan. Former Uthongathi FC coach Ronnie Gabriel, was brought in and given free reign. He revamped our systems and roped in players from across the country. A lot of time and effort was put in by all concerned. Our plan was to finish in the top 4 but I am glad we exceeded expectations,” enthused Naidoo.
Naidoo also spoke about the challenges faced by the club.
“Obviously finances are a concern. I try and fund the team as much as possible from my own pocket along with my son but it is worth it. We also have a few independent sponsors who also come to the party. My aim now is to attract a big sponsor to assist with the play-offs” said Naidoo.
He added that the club are really looking forward to the play-offs to be held in Cape Town.
“Our coach is already preparing and has a special programme in place. We need to arrive early and acclimatize,” he said.
Touching on the team’s long-term goals, Naidoo made his intentions clear about playing in the NFD..
“It will be a dream to involved in the PSL. These are very exciting times ahead, especially for the fans in Chatsworth but we will focus on the play-offs first. Even if we make it, the NFD is not fun and games either and is a true challenge,” concluded Naidoo.
